Allied market research has recently published a report titled "Global Data Center Cooling Market - Size, Share, Global Trend, Company Profiles, Demand, Insights, Analysis, Research, Report, Opportunities, Segmentation, and Forecast 2014 - 2020". As mentioned in the report, the global data center cooling market is expected to grow at 13.17% CAGR amid the forecast period and would reach $11.65 billion by 2020.

The data centre cooling system segment mainly includes two components air, conditioners and chillers, with the chillers segment contributing to 70% of total global data centre cooling market in the year 2013. Owing to low installation cost, the demand for Precision Air Conditioning (PAC) is expected drive the market for Global Data Center Cooling segment. Telecom and IT sectors are expected to generate the maximum revenue. There is tremendous increase of e-commerce sites globally. Industries such as healthcare & energy own a large repository of data. These factors necessitate the installation of an effective data center cooling systems. Acceptance of cloud technology in different sectors such as energy sectors and Banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI) sectors would also add to the revenue of the global data cooling center market. Based on geography, the North American region is expected to generate the maximum revenue in the global data cooling center market. The Asia-Pacific region is emerging due to rapid industrialisation

An effective data center cooling system would help the servers to run optimally and prevent data from getting lost. It prevents the formation of humidity in chambers and also regulates the continuous flow of information from processors. There are many techniques, ranging from crude to advanced and all the methods are integrated for constructing most effective approach to data center cooling systems.

One of the most energy efficient methods used in data center cooling systems is introducing heat wheels also called Kyoto wheels. These sophisticated wheels are slowly rotating devices having multiple air chambers. As the wheels moves, it brings cold air from outside and take hot air from the chambers to the outside, thus maintaining proper temperature for the processors. These wheels are effective as they consume less energy for the functioning of the wheels and are also suitable for most climates.

One of the recently developed techniques which is based on source of heat data center cooling systems is immersion cooling, wherein servers are fully immersed in a bath of coolant which is non-conductive. This envelops the components fully and aids in dissipation of heat. Usually solid state drives are most preferred for the purpose of storageConventional drives can also be used, however, it needs to be sealed or suspended above the oil. Immersion cooling is the most failure-prone method of conventional cooling systems. Some other methods which are based on ‘Source-of-heat data center’ are In-row cooling (IRC) and installing Rear door heat exchangers (RDHxs).

The prime strategies pursued by top companies to gain higher market share in the Global Data Center Cooling Market are massive product launches, making acquisition and forging partnership.

Major companies discussed in the report are:

  • IBM
  • HP
  • Schneider,
  • Emerson,
  • Rittal
  • Stulz,
  • Hitachi and
  • AdavtiveCOOL
