Over the past five to six years, both, the need and consumption volume of the aerogel products has exponentially grown owing to its application in the manufacturing space say research analysts at Allied Market Research, studying the size and share of the aerogel market. At present, growth in terms of revenue and adoption is especially driven by the application of the material in different thermal insulation products. Besides this, the rising demand for these insulation products are mainly coming from both buildings as well as pipeline insulation industries.

Aerogel insulated windowpane steals the show

Aerogel market players believe that insulated windowpanes can become a replacement for the panes that have long been used in single -pane windows. In a recent incident Aspen Aerogels Inc. received about $2.75 million in funding from the ‘Department of Energy's Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy’ (ARPA-E's). The company plans on using the fund to improve their windowpane technology over the period of three years. The technology incorporated an advanced and a transparent silica aerogel to offer insulation and protection from condensation. Commenting on the recent innovation Dr. George Gould, VP of R & D at Aspen Aerogels Inc., said “We are very pleased to have been chosen for this award and to be a part of ARPA-E's innovative project portfolio.” He further explained "The award will enable us to significantly leverage our investments in development of both revolutionary products and next generation rapid production processes."

Patented technologies open for commercial use say aerogel market players

Several patented technologies will soon be available for commercial application. Industry experts are of the faith that this bold step can mean a lot for the aerospace sector and enable it to expand in leaps and bounds. NASA made it to the headlines again after it released about 56 patents in the commercial domain. This means an unrestricted application of the technologies. One of the latest patients show the methods used for manufacturing the carbon nanotubes can become highly affordable that the techniques currently used, according to an article published in ‘The Independent’. The list released by NASA also highlights a tougher kind of aerogel found effective in a rocket engine. This aerogel has the capability to improve the performance of the engines - commercial aircrafts as well as aviation in general.

Oil – spills are no more a mess

A solution made from paper -waste aerogel has been found effective in cleaning up the oil spills. One of its kind cellulose – based biodegradable aerogel that features a paramount capability to absorb oil has been invented by a group of researchers from Singapore. The new material can soak oil up to 4 times and works as the best solvent available in the market. The non -toxic as well as biodegradable nature of the material makes it perfect for cleaning oil spills. Commenting on this greatest discovery of all time Duong Hai Minh, the assistant professor at the National University of Singapore, said” “Sorption has been considered one of the most effective ways to clean oil spills.” Such products are expected to open new growth avenues for Aerogel Market

Polymer aerogel optimizes oil & gas pipelines

In the year 2016 companies have come to an understanding that joint ventures can help in the development of aerogel product, for use in oil & gas pipelines. Thus, manufacturers are creating more robust and clean aerogel blankets. This would not only improve the insulation for pipe – in -pipe, but also deep-sea pipelines by lowering the installation cost. Furthermore, robust aerogel pipelines would further minimize the use of steel in the oil & gas pipeline construction, and increase the flow.  A Blueshift’s Polyimide aerogel product called AeroZero is one such highly flexible and durable film, that is over 400 times stronger than traditional silica aerogels. Besides this AeroZero is a 100 percent polymer construction and produces no dust. This helps in preventing the harmful particulates and harmful material handling arrangements. Explaining the benefits, president Tim Burbey at Blueshift said “This was Blueshift’s first experience working with a Scottish University. The team demonstrated an exemplary level of technical expertise. Burbey added” The well-managed and executed project integrated a multi-disciplinary approach to solve our challenging material science issues. We were pleased with the results stemming from the high quality technical work.” The discovery promises to strengthen the aerogel market further.
