Presently, 65 percent requirement of seed is served by the stock produced by the farmer. These seeds go for sowing without undergoing any sort of seed treatment. Although seeds are sourced by several private and government organization, except for the hybrid ones, major percentage of these seeds go untreated. Several studies indicate that that on an average 75 percent of the seeds that are sown in the Asia – Pacific region go untreated, compared to the 100 percent seeds treated in regions such as North America and Europe. Seed treatment not only offers protection from various soil borne diseases but also saves the emerged seeding from attracting pest that affects the crop and hampers growth.
