Among all the electrical appliances, those which generate heat energy from electricity consume maximum power. Naturally, geysers and heaters are among the highest power consuming appliances. Hence, despite the need for these appliances, many commercial businesses can’t afford them. To counter this problem, heat pump water heaters have been developed which are highly energy efficient as compared to conventional water heaters.

The basic difference between conventional water heaters and heat pump water heaters is that heat pump water heaters work on the principle of heat transfer. Thus, unlike conventional water heaters which generate heat directly from electricity, heat pump water heaters absorb heat from the surrounding environment and use it to increase the water temperature. Hence, the need for electricity in such heaters is for heat exchange and not for direct heating. The various advantages of these heaters have made the number one choice for different kinds of establishments like hotels, hospitals, boarding schools, hostels, etc.; commercial heat pump water heaters are, hence, in huge demand.

Reasons behind the rising demand for commercial heat pump water heaters

As stated earlier, the biggest advantage of setting up a heat pump water heater is energy savings. A study has shown that these energy-efficient water heaters consume just 25% of the power consumed by conventional heaters. This is an extremely important consideration for a commercial establishment from two perspectives; firstly, it brings down the electricity expenditure and reduces the cost of running the enterprise. The profitability of the business obviously increases with this small change.

Secondly, the carbon footprint of the business is also reduced. This is a vital factor in today’s times, wherein there is a focus on environmental sustainability and curbing carbon emissions. Energy-efficient water heaters bring down electricity consumption, thus helping businesses achieve this goal of ecological sustainability. Also, many water heaters that have been launched recently allow for their integration with photovoltaic cells. Thus, commercial enterprises can install photovoltaic panels on their rooftops, and further reduce electricity costs.

Another benefit of this commercial water heating system is that it offers consistent performance and is extremely safe to use. Moreover, just like most other electrical appliances, heat pump water heaters, too, have been integrated with modern digital electronics solutions. For instance, temperature sensors and LED controllers are installed in advanced water heaters which help in adjusting temperature and time. Furthermore, installation of these commercial water heating systems is easy, and maintenance costs are low.

How are the recent product launches shaping the dimensions of the industry?

The commercial heat pump water heater industry has seen tremendous growth in the past few years and is expected to further expand in the coming period. The rapid pace of urbanization and industrialization across the globe is anticipated to be the primary growth driver of the industry. Apart from this, several leading players in the industry have launched their own products, thereby creating a competitive atmosphere in the domain.

For instance, in February 2023, Intellihot Inc., a commercial water heater manufacturer operating in the US and Canada, announced that it was launching the world’s first tankless heat pump water heaters. Called the Electron Series, Intellihot Inc. has unveiled a product range of energy-efficient and eco-friendly water heating systems. The company released a statement saying that the product line was designed keeping in mind the changing commercial needs, modern grid connectivity features, and ecological sustainability concerns. Market analysts predict that the product will help the company to widen the scope of its operations in the coming period.

Similarly, in April 2023, Transom, a leading heat pump manufacturing company in Canada, announced the launch of an air-to-water commercial hot-water heat pump. The company released a statement saying that it was awaiting ETL (Electrical Testing Laboratories) certification, following which it will officially begin the sale of this product. The company has claimed that this water heater can operate at temperatures ranging from -23.3 to 87.78°C. This operating range makes the product ideal for commercial enterprises operating in almost all regions around the world. Thus, this product launch will help Transom to cater to the demands of the industry comprehensively in the coming period.

To summarize, commercial heat pump water heaters have witnessed huge surge in demand on account of their energy-efficient and eco-friendly nature. Advantages such consistent performance, easy installation, and low-cost maintenance will further boost the growth of this industry in the near future. Innovative product launches, like those by Intellihot Inc., and Transom, are anticipated to push other companies to invest in R&D activities.
