New launches and government initiatives across the world indicate that electric bike usage will become rampant in the coming years. Manufacturers have been adding innovative features in design and raising performance through inclusion of necessary equipment to stand out from the crowd and raise their stakes in the market. Leading players and startups have been launching new products to attract customer base. Moreover, government authorities have been granting permissions to increase the usage of electric bikes. Various approved initiatives such as electric bike taxis for last mile connectivity are expected to provide convenience to commuters as well as reduce greenhouse emissions. The demand is expected to increase in the coming years and more and more companies have been diving in the space. According to the report published by Allied Market Research, the global electric bikes market is expected to generate $118.65 billion by 2030. Following are some of the activities taking place across the world.

Market players have been launching their new offering to capture the major customer base in this fiercely competitive marketplace. Zero, a California-based electric bike manufacturing firm, launched its new bike Zero FXE. The firm collaborated with HUGE Design, a San Francisoco-based design firm. This electric bike is equipped with interior permanent magnet electric motor that has a power of 46 bhp along with peak torque of 106 Nm. The top speed reached by the bike is 137 kmph. It has a lithium-ion battery pack of 7.2 kWh and a three-pin charger to enable charging from 0 to 100% in nearly 9.7 hours.

The trend of launching new bikes continues with Rad Power Bikes. The manufacturer launched RadRover 6 Plus, a bike with semi-integrated battery. The firm has a reputation of building larger batteries than the competitors in the European market. This made it difficult for them to integrate into the bike. However, new ergonomic design enabled the company to equip its vehicle with a semi-integrated battery that can be removed for charging in a convenient manner.

Startups have been diving into the E-bikes space and launching their modernized offerings that would appeal customers. Sunra, a startup from China, launched Miku Max. The most striking feature of the bike is its design of floating seat. The design is meant to provide convenience in urban environments. The company developed a modern bike with all the basic functionalities such as round LED lighting, battery level indicator, and others. Equipped with 60V, 20Ah removable lithium-ion battery and 800W hub motor, this can travel up to 60 kilometers in a single charge. The battery can be charged from 0 to 100% in only four hours.

Determining the environmental concerns and the need to reduce greenhouse emissions, government authorities have been taking various steps such as permitting electric bikes to operate in the state. The Karnataka state government in India permitted the electric bike taxis in the state for limited distance. The state government highlighted that electric bike project can be implemented to enhance the last-mile connectivity for public transport. Moreover, these bikes are expected to promote the urban mobility and provide first- and last-mile solutions for people who opt for public transport mediums such as metro. According to the scheme, the government permitted bike taxis that are equipped with electric battery, not diesel or petrol. In addition, commuters can travel only up to 10 kilometers. This initiative will be implemented by a Bengaluru-based bike taxi provider Rapido. More and more companies are expected to a swipe in the market and raise their market shares in the next few years.
