According to Allied Market Research, the solar EPC industry accounted for $0.4 trillion in 2024 and is expected to reach $1.2 trillion by 2034, citing a CAGR of 11.9% during 2025-2034. 

Integration of Digital Tools into EPC Workflows 

Over the past few years, digital technologies have become deeply integrated into the EPC process. Modern solar EPC providers now use drones for land surveys, AI-based software for solar panel layout optimization, and digital twins for simulating plant performance. These tools reduce manual errors and speed up design approvals. 

Additionally, project management software platforms are now being used to monitor construction timelines, material deliveries, and contractor performance. With real-time updates available through dashboards, business clients can stay informed without needing to visit the site physically. This digital shift is especially important for clients managing multiple projects across different regions. With projects growing in scale, these technologies help EPC providers meet client expectations for quality and cost control. 

Developments in Policy and Project Execution 

India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy announced in July 2025 that solar projects under the Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU) scheme need to follow stricter local content requirements. EPC contractors working on these projects are expected to source solar modules and inverters from approved domestic manufacturers. This is part of the government’s ongoing effort to support local manufacturing and reduce dependence on imports. 

At the same time, many EPC players are adjusting their procurement strategies due to global pricing fluctuations. The drop in solar module prices observed in early 2025 is encouraging more developers to fast-track delayed projects. However, fluctuating prices can also challenge EPC firms that had fixed their contract prices months earlier. This adds pressure on procurement teams to renegotiate with suppliers or adjust project scopes to stay on budget. 

Furthermore, construction timelines happen to face delays due to labor shortages and logistics disruptions. Some EPC companies are responding by training in-house teams and investing in local storage facilities for critical components. Others are forming partnerships with logistics firms to avoid delays in component delivery. These strategies help avoid common risks in project execution while maintaining trust with clients. 

Why Project Financing Influences EPC Project Design 

Project financing is another area that directly affects the work of EPC providers. Financial institutions funding large-scale solar projects often set technical guidelines for system performance, warranties, and maintenance terms. EPC firms need to design systems that meet these criteria while staying within cost limits. 

Banks and private equity firms prefer projects with proven technology, stable suppliers, and contractors with a good track record. As a result, EPC providers are often selected not just for their price but for their ability to deliver reliable results. The documentation and guarantees offered by the EPC firm, like power output warranties or penalty clauses for delays, also influence financing decisions.
