Allied Market Research published a report titled “Global E-Waste Management Market (Types, Sources and Geography) - Size, Share, Global Trends, Company Profiles, Demand, Insights, Analysis, Research, Report, Opportunities, Segmentation and Forecast, 2013 – 2020.” The report forecast the global E-waste management market to reach $49.4 billion by 2020, growing at a CAGR of 23.5%.
The growing need to adapt latest technologies is the key factor contributing to the accumulation of large volume of E-Waste across the globe. Asia Pacific is projected as the largest revenue generating region in the E-Waste management market across the globe. European countries follow the Asian region in terms of revenue share. As of 2013, the global E-waste markets’ volume was registered to be 57.7 million tons.
U.S. being the major exporter of used electronic goods, exports mobile phones, CRT monitors, i.e., cathode ray tubes and other electronic devices in large quantity. NCER (National Center for Electronics Recycling) stated that 54 million tons of E-waste is generated every year across the globe, which accounts for 43lbs i.e. 20kg per person.
The study by NCER evaluates that a large portion of U.S. generated E-waste is shipped and exported to various developing countries of Asia and West Africa. The waste exported to these regions is generally recycled or disposed-off in the backyards, which step-up numerous environmental and health related concerns for the people living in those regions.
Statement from Jason Linnell, Executive director of NCER, suggests that in comparison to other countries, U.S. is yet to exercise all its recycling potential. However, North America seems to be largely participating into E-waste recycling, which would decline the export volume for E-waste and accelerate the domestic E-waste management market.
E-waste management initiatives from all countries across the globe would help in reducing the health concerns and environmental hazards caused due to E-waste. The report on E-waste management market states that Asia-Pacific would hold the largest revenue share globally. However, recycling initiatives from North America would add to a larger revenue share for the overall global E-waste management market.
