Global Blow Molded Plastics Industry: An Emerging Sector with Promising Growth Opportunities

Blow molding is a method used for manufacturing hollow plastic items from thermoplastic materials. This method involves heating and expanding a plastic tube namely, a preform or a parison. The parison is positioned between two molds designed to match the desired product shape. Air is subsequently introduced to expand the tube, resulting in the thinning of its walls to conform to the mold's shape. After the blowing phase concludes, the product is cooled, removed from the molds, trimmed, and prepared for subsequent processing steps.

According to a recent analysis by Allied Market Research, the blow-molded plastics market is estimated to showcase a notable CAGR of 4.2% throughout the forecast timeframe. The market is experiencing growth due to a robust demand from the packaging and automotive industry. 

Types of blow molding processes:

• Extrusion blow molding: The extrusion blow molding process is conducted by conventionally extruding a parison or tube through a die, like the ones employed in crafting plastic pipes. This parison is extruded downward, positioned between the two halves of an open blow mold. Once the parison reaches the required length, the mold seals shut, securing and maintaining the neck end open while sealing the bottom end.
• Stretch blow molding: In this method, the focus is on manufacturing hollow items like bottles, which feature biaxial molecular alignment. Biaxial orientation contributes to improved physical attributes, transparency, and gas barrier capabilities; all are crucial in items like carbonated beverage bottles.
• Injection blow molding: In injection blow molding, the material undergoes injection molding first. The hot material remained on the core pin and moved to the blow molding section, where it is inflated to form a bottle shape and left to cool. Subsequently, the bottle is transferred to the next section and removed. Injection blow molding offers greater precision in designing the neck and finish, particularly for threaded areas. However, the injection blow molding process doesn't yield significant enhancements in physical properties as it involves minimal molecular orientation.

Private equity firm Shore Capital acquired the 'Honey Bear' blow molder on 23rd February 2023

Shore Capital, a private equity firm headquartered in Chicago, has completed a partnership agreement with Container Services Inc. (CSI), a manufacturer of custom rigid plastic containers through blow molding processes. CSI is headquartered in Hillsboro, KS, and has an additional location in New Castle, PA.

Established in 1991 by Darrell Driggers with the initial aim of supplying custom plastic bottles to honey producers, CSI gained recognition for its distinctive "honey bear" bottle. Over time, the company diversified its product range and expanded its manufacturing capabilities, evolving into a prominent producer of custom containers serving customers in the food and beverage, household products, and automotive sectors, as noted in Shore Capital's announcement.

 CSI is specialized in crafting blow-molded plastic containers using high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) materials and has expertise in working with recycled plastic resins.

Brent Driggers stated, "Our collaboration with Shore Capital will provide us with the resources to invest in our team and enhance our production capabilities. Most importantly, this partnership with Shore allows us to enhance our commitment to serving our customers."
