Key takeaways:
Vital signs are important clinical measurements such as blood pressure, pulse rate, respiration rate, and temperature, that indicate the medical condition of a patient and the performance of his/her essential body organs and systems. Since these parameters provide quick insights into the overall state of an individual’s body functions, doctors rely on these signs during emergency cases and important medical treatments like surgeries and operations. For this purpose, specialized medical equipment, called vital signs monitoring devices, has been developed that offer accurate analysis of the patient’s health and indicate the chronic disease state.
Advancements in wireless technology are creating favorable conditions for growth
The vital signs monitoring devices market accounted for $4,655.9 million in 2018 and is predicted to gather a sum of $7,813.5 million by 2026, rising at a CAGR of 6.6% during 2019-2026. The advent of innovative wireless systems has played an important role in the expansion of the sector. One major problem with traditional vital signs monitors is that their stationary nature limits the mobility of the patient and restricts their rate of recovery. For issues like bedsores or weak muscles, patients need to move to heal, so these tools often don’t help.
On the other hand, wireless vital sign monitoring devices aid in measuring and recording crucial information in real-time without the need for any human intervention. Moreover, portable machines can easily be installed at home, thus reducing the need for unnecessary hospitalization. Along with this, the integration of IoT and AI has improved the precision and monitoring capabilities of these systems. Internet of Things, for instance, has enabled doctors to track the improvement in a patient’s health and analyze the treatment’s efficacy more accurately. Similarly, AI-powered tools can detect patterns and anomalies to identify the possible medical issues that are likely to arise in the future, thereby assisting healthcare professionals in taking precautionary steps. The increased use of advanced wearables such as smart watches, patches, and other such gadgets has also contributed to the growth of the market.
Innovations by Dozee and GE Healthcare opening new investment avenues in the industry
In recent times, several biomedical and pharmaceutical companies have started focusing on R&D projects to design and launch cutting-edge solutions for the medical sector. For instance, in October 2023, Dozee, an Indian medical equipment supplier, introduced Dozee Pro Ex, an ambulatory patient monitoring system that tracks ECG rhythm, oxygen saturation, blood pressure, respiration rate, temperature, and pulse rate. The product allows doctors to monitor patients remotely through central command centers and mobile applications, thus widening the scope of telehealth services. In the press release issued by the company, Gaurav Parchani, CTO at Dozee, stated that the solution is expected to revolutionize the healthcare domain in the near future.
In April 2024, GE HealthCare, a multinational healthcare technology company, released a press statement highlighting that the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved its Portrait VSM vital signs monitor. With seamless EMR integration, the product is powered by SuperSTAT's non-invasive blood pressure algorithm to enable doctors to automate most of the routine patient care tasks. The portable nature of this equipment allows patients to move around freely, improving healthcare outcomes significantly.
In summary, the growing use of vital signs monitoring devices in emergency medical situations has impacted the industry positively in recent times. Moreover, technological advancements and innovations in wireless technology are projected to accelerate sectoral growth in the coming period.
