Determining the effect of greenhouse gas emissions on the environment, automotive players have undertaken a mission of electrification of their product offerings. Many automakers have planned for electrification of their vehicle fleets over next few years, taking necessary steps, and contributing toward the environment. Major auto players such as Jeep, SEAT, and Maserati have undertaken the electrification processes of their vehicles and set major targets. Moreover, governments have been launching supportive policies and regulations to encourage automakers electrify their vehicles. Many automakers in the European countries have been facing pressure from regulators to shift their focus from gasoline-powered engines to electric-powered engines. As companies and governments commit to a more sustainable future, the trend of vehicle electrification would continue for the next few years. According to the report published by Allied Market Research, the global vehicle electrification market is expected to reach $140.29 billion by 2027. Following are some of the activities taking place across the world.

Setting a target to become the world’s “greenest SUV brand,” Jeep aims to commit its resources and expertise toward building cleaner vehicles. In September 2020, the company introduced its first electrified vehicle Jeep Wrangler 4xe in the U.S. market. It is a plug-in-hybrid vehicle and the company plans to dive into the fully electric vehicle segment. The company also plans to expand into the European market in the coming years as the emission norms are more stringent in the Europe than the U.S. The automaker is expected to merge with the France’s PSA Groupe to support its vision of launching fully electric vehicles.

Another manufacturer has been tapping on opportunities in the vehicle electrification industry by expanding its range of offerings. SEAT is expected to begin production of its Tarraco e-HYBRID from the first week of December 2020. It will be the plug-in hybrid version of its flagship vehicle. It can deliver the optimum power of 245PS (180kW), which made it the most powerful Tarraco till date. Moreover, it is equipped with 13kWh lithium-ion battery back that can deliver enough power to make it travel for up to 49km in an all-electric mode. Though the company already offers the SEAT Mii electric and SEAT Leon e-HYBRID, the electrification of Tarraco helps the company in achieving its aim of a more sustainable future.

With governments launching stringent norms regarding emission and encouraging initiatives focused on green vehicles, automotive players have been embracing electrification. Maserati would become another automaker that has plans for electrification of its entire lineup. Though the company has not made any official announcement, the CEO Davide Grasso outlined that the company plans to electrify its vehicles by launching plug-in hybrid or fully electric models. The process of vehicle electrification would begin by 2021. The company already electrified its Ghibli range and it would electrify its Grecale SUV by the next year. Speaking during an online event, Mr. Grosso added that the company would electrify Gran Turismo and Gran Cabrio models. In addition, all of its vehicles will be electrified by 2025.
