Book light, or reading light, is designed to ease book reading in the dark or less illuminated spaces. They are designed in such a way that the light coming out of the lamp focuses on the book only and is not scattered in the rest of the room. Books lights are generally popular among avid readers, especially those who have a habit of reading at night.
Trends shaping the market
The primary driver of the book light market is the increase in the reading habit of people across the globe, especially in the US. A detailed survey done by Myvision.org, a medical consulting group consisting of leading ophthalmologists and optometrists, has shown that around 93% of US residents read a book in 2022. In the past few years, owing to the growing work-from-home culture, the tendency of people to stay indoors has increased. As a result, many of them have taken up reading as a hobby which has further helped the market surge ahead.
The rise of e-commerce industry has also been touted as an important factor in the growth of the book light market. Due to online retail platforms, customers can buy products like reading lights from the comfort of their homes without actually having to visit an electronics store or supermarket. Moreover, these online retail platforms provide ample choices to the customers which gives them a sort of freedom to choose from the numerous items on the catalogue. This ease of shopping offered by e-commerce websites, too, has helped in the growth of the market.
Top product launches in the industry
The growing demand for book lights from readers across the world has led to many consumer electronic goods manufacturing companies to launch innovative products in the book light market.
Glocusent LED neck reading light is one such innovative product that has been released recently. With a high battery backup and long arms, this reading light is worn around the neck while reading a book. The product is quite lightweight, thus offering a comfortable fit to the user without having to change focus every time while reading. Though the product is slightly on the expensive side, its features have helped to increase its popularity in a rather short period of time.
Another book light which has been quite popular in the market this year is Vekkia Dual Heads Rechargeable Book Light. The biggest advantage of this reading light is that it illuminates both the pages of the book and has a long battery life as compared to most other products on the market. Unlike the neck reading light, this product has metal clips which need to be attached to the book itself. However, one downside of this reading light is that its metal clips are suited for hardcover books only.
In summary, along with the increasing adoption of book reading as a hobby and rise in e-commerce industry, the book light market is expected to grow due to the innovative products launched by the key companies of this market. Additionally, these companies are engaging in research and development to integrate ‘smart’ electronics and advanced technologies like Internet of Things in their future products which will further fuel the market in the coming period.
