Highlights:
In the era of transportation and storage of hazardous materials (hazmat) across various industries, hazmat packaging has emerged as an ideal solution. Hazmat packaging is a safe and efficient way to transport hazardous materials, chemicals, and waste. These packaging options are designed to safely contain and transport dangerous substances, ensuring both safety and compliance with stringent regulations.
Hazmat plastic packaging refers to specialized containers made from robust plastic materials to securely hold hazardous materials. These materials can be toxic, flammable, corrosive, or reactive, and their safe handling is governed by strict international standards. Effective hazmat packaging prevents leaks, contamination, and environmental harm, playing a crucial role in maintaining safety throughout the supply chain.
Popular hazmat plastic packaging solutions ensuring safety of hazardous materials
The safe transportation and storage of hazardous materials are important for protecting human health and the environment. These specialized packaging comes in various forms, each designed to handle specific types of hazardous substances. Intermediate bulk containers (IBCs) are large, stackable containers made from high density polyethylene HDPE or other robust plastics. They are designed to hold substantial volumes of hazardous liquids or solids, typically ranging from 275 to 330 gallons. This kind of hazmat packaging includes a valve for easy dispensing and a metal cage for structural support. IBCs are resistant to impact, chemicals, and environmental stress, offering a suitable option for a wide range of hazardous materials. Such types of packaging are widely used across industries including food and beverage, chemical, and agriculture. Due to their high demand, the IBC segment of the hazmat plastic packaging industry is expected to generate an absolute revenue of $1218.1 million from 2023 to 2032.
Moreover, drums, another types of hazmat packaging have gained huge popularity across several sectors including oil and gas, pharmaceutical, and chemical. They are made from polypropylene and are designed to hold substantial volumes of hazardous liquids or solids. This type of packaging offers a wide range of capacity from 30 to 55 gallons or more. Also, its design includes tight-seal lids to prevent leaks and contamination. Along with this, drums are resistant to UV light, chemicals, and severe impact, ensuring smooth transportation of hazardous materials.
A light on the growing prominence of hazmat packaging across Asia-Pacific
The continuous emphasis on the development of domestic industrial sector across several nations across the Asia-Pacific region has increased the demand for hazmat packaging. Ongoing construction development across prominent countries such as India, China, and Japan have augmented the need for specialized packaging solutions throughout the region. Among several countries, the Middle East is expected to manifest the fastest growth with a CAGR of 6.9% from 2023 to 2032. However, India is predicted to rank second in terms of growth, with a CAGR of 6.8% over the forecast period. Additionally, in recent years, the region has experienced rapid urbanization and industrialization which is anticipated to increase the demand for promising packaging solutions across various end-use industries across the region such as chemical, pharmaceutical, and oil and gas.
Novvia Group and Labelmaster's collaborative initiatives driving innovation in packaging solutions
In December 2023, Novvia Group, the global rigid container and life sciences packaging distributor acquired Ocean State Packaging, a Rhode Island based supplier of plastic bottles and other rigid packaging products. With this acquisition, Novvia Group aimed to expand its product offerings across the new England market by offering high-quality packaging solutions and customized services with domestic and international customers across various industries.
On the other hand, Labelmaster, packaging and technology for the safe and compliant transport of dangerous goods and hazardous materials partnered with Endural, industry-leading plastic casing company. Through this partnership, the companies envisioned to provide the automotive industry with sustainable, reusable plastic packaging options for transporting lithium batteries and other distributed generation. This partnership combined Labelmaster’s large format lithium battery packaging and shipping expertise with Endural’s durable plastic casing to offer a sustainable and cost-effective packaging solution that benefited the automotive aftermarket industry. Further, it allowed Labelmaster to now offer plastic packaging solutions for transporting damaged, defective or recalled (DDR) lithium batteries and modules found in electric vehicles, and its existing wood and metal casing options.
To sum up, the future landscape of the industry looks promising, with continued growth expected due to the rising demand for safe and compliant transport of hazardous materials. Moreover, continuous evolution of industries and rising regulatory measures are expected to increase the demand for innovative and sustainable packaging solutions in the coming years.
