The popularity of next-generation firewall is unstoppable. The ever-existing threat of cyberattacks is the major reason behind the adoption of NGFW. The major market players such as Palo Alto Networks and Fortinet have invested big bucks on developing fastest NGFW to ensure security of companies. Palo Alto Networks recently launched its fastest-ever NGFW that could predict attacks using machine learning. Whereas, Fortinet launched three novel NGFWs to secure the cloud on-ramp.
The advent of next-generation firewall (NGFW) was quite unforeseen and sudden. However, today it is seamlessly holding together the world’s network security. The NGFW is a part of the third generation of firewall that combines a traditional firewall technology and other various functionalities such as application firewall using intrusion prevention system (IPS) and in-line deep packet inspection (DPI). Although NGFW includes typical functions of a traditional firewall, its aim is to include more layers of OSI model to improve filtering of network traffic. What’s more, NGFWs provide deeper inspection compared to first- and second-generation firewall.
According to Allied Market Research, the next-generation firewall market is projected to reach $6.72 billion by 2025 with a remarkable CAGR of 12.9% from 2018 to 2025. The rise in cyberattacks, development in IoT-based complex threat landscape, and advent of firewall as a service would be the major drivers.
Today’s firewalls have evolved with time beyond simple packet filtering inspection. Thus, most of the companies prefer Next-Generation firewall to block modern threats such as advanced malware and application-layer attacks. The major difference between a traditional firewall and NGFW is that the latest devices are application-aware. In addition, traditional firewalls depend on common application port to monitor which applications are running and foresee possible types of attacks. On the contrary, in NGFW device, it is not essential to assume that specific application is running on particular port. Thus, major market players invest huge pile of money in developing faster NGFW services.
Palo Alto Networks unveils fastest yet NGFW services
In today’s tech-savvy world, it is essential to stay ahead of the curve to deal with cybercrimes. Thus, the global security leader, Palo Alto Networks, introduced fastest-ever NGFW with novel capabilities to predict malicious attacks and use automation to prevent them in progress. The new NGFW, PAN-OS® version 9.0, delivers over 60 new features that prevent malicious attacks and offers new integrated DNS security services that are powered by machine learning.
Among the new capabilities, the company launched new software and hardware enhancements for Next-Generation firewall that could help firms to strengthen security and simplify protective measures across its hybrid cloud environments.
Fortinet secures the cloud on-ramp with NGFW
Fortinet, one of the major global leaders in automated cybersecurity solutions, recently announced three novel high-performance NGFWs that support security-driven networking and help organizations to improve their on-ramp to the cloud. The three Next-Generation firewalls, FortiGate 1100E, FortiGate 3300E, and FortiGate 2200E.
Accelerating on-ramp to the cloud needs an out-of-the-box approach such as security-driven networking, which allows companies to develop networks that offer integrated end-to-end security and high-performance secure connectivity through data centers.
Adopting a NGFW has become essential for any enterprise, especially in today’s world when security of personal devices is such as a fragile thing to take care of. With the flexibility of NGFW, a company gains a different way to secure devices. Although there will be always new cyberattacks to overcome, NGFW has very compelling upsides, which makes it extremely vital in today’s era.
