Serverless Architecture governing the future of technology

The popularity of the Internet of Things (IoT) and mobile applications has fueled the demands for serverless architecture, along with a need to unite cloud applications with mobile and desktop apps. Serverless architecture refers to construct and run applications and services without managing its infrastructure. All the servers, on which the applications will run, will be managed by Serverless architecture. Along with various recent infrastructures, a start-up company, Lightbend has introduced Cloudstate, serverless framework as a next generation serverless architecture.

Where on the one hand, serverless architecture is believed to change the future of technology, the companies, on the other hand, have developed various infrastructures, for their consumers. Some of the remarkable infrastructures are as follows:

• Amazon Web Service (AWS) Lambda:

AWS Lambda, powered by Amazon, is one of the most conventional serverless computing platforms. The computing service runs code in response to events and only charges for times when the code is being used. Therefore, all the administrative and backend functions are managed by it. Lambda supports Python, C#, and JavaScript.

• IBM Cloud Functions:

IBM cloud is a Function-as-a-service (FaaS) programming platform based on Apache OpenWhisk. It is a lightweight serverless architecture that allows the permits the developers to code-on-demand, where they will only be charged for what they use.

• Google Cloud Functions:

Google cloud function offers serverless computing within the Google cloud platform. Since it supports conventional coding languages including JavaScript and Python, providing a rapid and efficient environment for developers to code. Also, it allows its users to link cloud services and applications.

Lightbend introduces Cloudstate, serverless framework:

In addition to these infrastructures, another technology-based start-up companies are also participating, increasing the level of competition. Recently, a tech startup, Lightbend, a company that helps and supports Java Virtual Machine (JVM) application developers, announced to launch Cloudstate, the serverless framework for open source. It intends for event-driven architecture, event sourcing, Command Query Responsibility Segregation (CQRS), cluster sharding, conflict-free replicated data type (CRDTs), and co-location of data and processing.

The project aims to speed up the next generation serverless to support general-purpose application development such as microservices, machine learning, and streaming pipelines. CloudState can be used with Knative, to provide a path for better productivity, auto-scaling, and polyglot support.

Serverless architecture can provide a good future for various simple applications. It is beneficial for enterprise businesses since it offers rapid deployment, cost-effective solutions focus on coding and increased scalability. Also, it provides a familiar programming environment for developers supporting most of the technical languages. These reasons are, therefore, urging the companies to switch more towards serverless computing.

According to a report by Allied market research the global market of serverless architecture is estimated to reach $21,988.07 million by 2025, registering a CAGR of 27.8% from 2018 to 2025. The rise in need to eradicate management servers, rapid app development, and DevOps to serverless computing is driving the market growth. Moreover, the rise in the adoption of cloud technologies and the emergence of serverless computing growing IoT fields are expected to provide lucrative opportunities in the market.
