Highlights:
The growing pace of globalization and the increasing shift toward consumerism has led to the development of several new goods and services that improve people’s standard of living. Moreover, the rapid expansion of industrialization and urbanization has increased the disposable incomes of the middle-class population, thus increasing the demand for these products. Many industries associated with the development of cosmetics, personal care items, and lifestyle goods have flourished in the past few years due to changes in customer preferences and spending patterns. The rise in popularity of BB creams is one such new trend in the personal care and cosmetics sector.
Growing skincare awareness opening new avenues for growth in the industry
BB cream, short for beauty balm or blemish balm, is a multifunctional personal care product that provides combined benefits of skincare ointments and makeup solutions. These creams were originally developed by pharmaceutical companies to heal the scar marks and blemishes caused by laser treatments. Dermatologists often recommend BB creams to patients who have undergone laser surgeries to reduce irritation and soothe the affected skin. Over the years, however, these balms have become one of the most used cosmetics products.
Many leading businesses operating in the personal care products sector have conducted studies and engaged in R&D activities to improve the quality of their products by combining different beneficial ingredients and constituents. For example, companies like Garnier have developed lotions that help reduce visible signs of aging on mature skin. Similarly, BB creams with mineral content have been launched that minimize skin imperfections and blemishes, thereby improving skin tone significantly. Hyaluronic acid has become a common ingredient in modern beauty balms as this compound aids in diminishing wrinkles and fine lines. Furthermore, hyaluronan moisturizes the skin, thereby giving it a glowing look. The overall increase in consciousness regarding facial beauty has contributed to the growth in demand for such cosmetics products.
Additionally, BB cream manufacturers are increasingly focusing on developing products that minimize the impact of air pollution and UV rays on facial skin. The growing number of skin cancer cases across the world has further played an important role in the growth of the industry. Doctors and medical practitioners recommend the use of SPF sunscreen to protect the body from harmful sun rays. To cater to these evolving demands of their customer base, businesses have started incorporating compounds and ingredients that provide comprehensive SPF coverages, including SPF 15, 25, and 50, thus offering a solution to skin peels, patches, and microdermabrasion.
Intense competition among lifestyle brands impacting the sector positively
The BB cream industry, which accounted for $4.6 billion in 2023, is expected to gather a revenue of $10.0 billion by 2033, citing a CAGR of 8.1% during 2024-2033. The launch of several new products by leading companies is one of the major reasons behind this expected growth in the landscape. For instance, in January 2024, Kosas Cosmetics, a lifestyle solutions developer, unveiled a new BB burst tinted gel cream. Developed using collagen-supporting copper peptides and barrier-supporting saccharide isomerate, the cream is designed for people with sensitive skin. Moreover, the product also includes zinc oxide and sodium PCA to minimize dryness and redness by providing the skin with a hydrating effect.
Similarly, Anastasia Beverly Hills, an American cosmetics company, announced the launch of a novel BB cream-in-a-stick product. The solution features ingredients such as HA+ microspheres, jojoba seed oil, shea butter, peptide complex, collagen stabilizer, coconut oil, marula oil, and fatty acids to minimize aging signs and provide natural facial care. With the launch of this new BB cream, Anastasia Beverly Hills has continued its expansion in the luxury FMCG industry.
To conclude, the BB cream industry is predicted to make huge gains in the next few years due to the increasing investments by top players in the market. Furthermore, several companies have unveiled innovative products that, along with enhancing facial beauty, also provide several skincare benefits. These product launches are expected to bring numerous growth opportunities to the landscape in the coming period.
