Key takeaways:
Household cleaners are products designed to clean floors, walls, ceilings, and furniture in residential spaces. These materials not only remove dirt and stains from these surfaces but also disinfect them by inhibiting the growth of different germs, bacteria, fungi, and other pathogens. Furthermore, they also aid in cleaning various materials such as dishes, clothes, appliances, etc., thereby offering a comprehensive sanitation solution for households and residential spaces. In the last few years, the rising awareness regarding the importance of health and hygiene has played an important role in increasing the demand for household cleaners. Moreover, the emergence of modern retail channels such as hypermarkets and supermarkets has enabled customers to choose from a wide variety of options, thus expanding the scope of the industry. In addition, the increasing proliferation of e-commerce companies has helped consumer goods companies market their products more efficiently, thus improving their revenue share in the long run.
Use of modern technologies accelerating industry’s growth and success
The increasing deployment of advanced technologies such as robotics and automation has contributed to the expansion of the sector. Recently, several consumer electronics companies have designed robots that clean kitchen countertops, floors, lawn pavements, doors, and windows using liquid soap and disinfectants, all without human help. Additionally, multinational giants have also developed automated scrubber dryers and hands-free vacuum cleaners that perform these tasks with high precision and effectiveness. Also, these automation solutions are multi-surface cleaners, i.e., they identify different kinds of surfaces such as wood, glass, metal, stone, etc., and apply different formulations and cleansing products accordingly.
In February 2024, Avidbots, a robotics company in Ontario, unveiled a fully autonomous floor scrubber, Kas. The autonomous robot has been designed to navigate through tight spaces such as front porches, lawns, etc., and identify different objects seamlessly. As per the company’s press release, the gadget features a lithium-ion battery capable of delivering a long cleaning cycle of 3+ hours on a single charge. Furthermore, the obstacle avoidance system and sensors embedded in the robot help it to move around people and objects easily, thereby maintaining high safety and efficiency while cleaning various surfaces.
The transition toward eco-friendly household cleaners impacting the industry positively
The household cleaners industry is anticipated to gather a huge revenue of $53.3 billion by 2031. The landscape accounted for $34.1 billion in 2021 and is predicted to rise at a CAGR of 4.6% during 2022-2031. The transition toward sustainable detergents, soaps, sanitizers, and disinfectants is an important trend that has been influencing the growth of the industry in the last few years. Traditionally, these materials contained synthetic chemicals and compounds that have adverse effects on the environment. Studies have demonstrated that the mixing of soap and detergent water discharged from households with natural water bodies such as lakes, rivers, and ponds is the primary reason behind eutrophication. With the rising environmental consciousness, consumer goods manufacturers have started producing cleaning products that have herbal ingredients and have minimal impact on biodiversity and ecology. Furthermore, companies have shifted to eco-friendly manufacturing processes to reduce the carbon footprint of their business operations.
In August 2024, CloroxPro, a cleaning products developer, announced the expansion of its product portfolio by launching a new line of plant-based disinfectant wipes. Manufactured using natural ingredients such as citric acid derivatives, the product kills 99.9% of the germs, thus helping maintain hygiene in residential and commercial spaces. The company, in its press release, has highlighted that the product has been certified by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency under its Environment and Safer Choice program. Furthermore, CloroxPro has stated that the product launch is in line with the company’s policy to develop climate-friendly solutions that help people lead healthy lives. This new plant-based product is expected to help the business achieve its environmental, social, and governance goals in the near future.
Winding up, the growing demand for healthy and hygienic living spaces is predicted to increase the demand for household cleaners industry in the coming period. The rising use of advanced robots and sustainable cleaning solutions in households across the globe is predicted to help the market flourish in the coming period.
