5G was a hot topic few months ago due to its rumored connection with spreading coronavirus. The telecom companies were developing 5G infrastructure and analyzing its implementation. Then COVID-19 pandemic took over and people started creating conspiracy theories. There were rumors such as 5G waves are spreading coronavirus from one place to another and towers are the source for it. However, they were all just fake news. Companies are planning to develop 5G infrastructure to improve the connectivity. Investors are also investing in the development of 5G worldwide. Even during this pandemic, investors are pretty sure that this sector will be profitable once the pandemic is over. According to the report published by Allied Market Research, the 5G Infrastructure market is expected to reach $58.17 billion by 2025.

5G companies are trying to help the frontline workers to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. The companies have enabled 5G speed for telehealth visits, pop-up hospitals, and testing centers. Also, it has increased speed of x-ray results to make it easy for doctors to check more patients than before in less time. The FCC has temporarily granted T-Mobile and Verizon access to 600 MHz spectrum band so that they can serve better during the pandemic.

Many companies believe that the development of 5G infrastructure might get delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but it will be an optimistic thing for the companies. It will give companies time to prepare in a better manner than their competitors. Market players also stated that these dumb conspiracy theories will fly away after some time. Many scientific organizations have already proved the theories that are blaming the development of 5G infrastructure for increase in COVID-19 cases wrong. Lockdown is making it hard for companies to install the equipment. One of the officials of Orange SA, a French multinational company, said that the wires connect not only homes but also the antennas. The installation will be delayed due to the pandemic. The auction of 5G spectrums has been delayed in the U.S., Austria, France, Spain, and Portugal.

Recently, there have been certain development and investment by the companies

Development:

Recently, there was news that Verizon, a United States company has confirmed that they will be launching 5G infrastructure soon in the U.S. The Chief Technology Officer Kyle Meledy stated that the company is excited to record a progress made by the company in United States. The key points from the news are:

  • The company recently acquired Blue Jeans as a part of its strategy.

  • The company will able to acquire more market share than competitors.

  • The market player will provide technology integration to users using Verizon's 5G infrastructure.

  • The introduction of 5G infrastructure will evolve the way we live as it will increase connectivity and internet speed that will make accessing the internet easier than before.

Investment:

Certain companies are investing their money in the development of 5G infrastructure during COVID-19 pandemic. One of the companies to invest in 5G infrastructure is Ligado. It is investing $100 million. The application was pending for four years, but it has been approved during the COVID-19 pandemic. The benefits of the investment to the company are:

  •  It will support the expansion of the wireless ecosystem.

  • It will enhance current services and introduce new offerings in the market.

The companies are pretty excited about the development of 5G in the world as it will change the internet forever. The users will have access to high internet connectivity. The launch of 5G will be postponed for just a few months. Market leaders are using this time efficiently as these leaders are developing infrastructure that will boost up the development of 5G. The COVID-19 situation will not affect 5G infrastructure as investors and companies have great faith that the market will see huge profits in the future. Although, there are certain rumors but they will be gone after some time. The development of 5G infrastructure will increase with time more than before.
