Highlights:
Public address and voice alarm systems are electronic systems designed to convey information to a large audience in public or commercial spaces. From making announcements at railway stations, airports, and ports to disseminating clear instructions for controlled evacuation in emergencies, these systems play an important role in releasing pre-recorded or live messages to the public. Typically, public address and voice alarm (PAVA) sets include loudspeakers, amplifiers, digital IP platforms, microphones, and volume and voice alarm controllers. The use of PAVA solutions has increased significantly in healthcare facilities, transportation hubs, industrial facilities, warehouses, theaters, malls, and shopping complexes.
Increasing demand for PAVA systems in commercial and public spaces driving the industry
The public address and voice alarm systems industry accounted for $4.0 billion in 2023 and is predicted to gather a revenue of $9.1 billion by 2033, rising at a CAGR of 8.4% during 2023-2033. Growing emphasis on safety and security in industrial facilities, commercial enterprises, and public spaces has increased the demand for PAVA systems. Additionally, advancements in digital signal processing and directional speakers have played a significant role in augmenting the growth rate of the sector.
Furthermore, limitations of conventional alarm systems have led to a gradual transition toward these new solutions, thus creating favorable conditions for the expansion of the landscape. Several studies point out that only 10-15% of people respond to traditional alarm bells assuming it as a false alarm. This creates serious issues in case of emergency situations wherein controlled evacuation becomes the most important task. Hence, PAVA systems with voice messages giving clear instructions are increasingly being preferred over conventional alarm devices. Apart from clear communication with a large pool of people, these modern public address solutions are flexible and easily scalable. This makes them ideal for commercial and public spaces of all sizes, ranging from small buildings to large auditoriums and malls.
Recently, technological advancements in sensors and cameras have led to the development of innovative public address and voice alarm systems. Furthermore, these solutions allow the integration of other security gadgets such as fire and smoke detection devices. Along with this, many governments worldwide now require construction companies and real estate developers to install PAVA systems in public and commercial buildings.
Innovations by multinational corporations accelerating sectoral growth
Over the last few years, several leading companies have launched novel PAVA systems, thereby allowing them to cater to the evolving demands of their clients comprehensively. For instance, in May 2022, Zenitel, a major critical communication technology provider, announced the launch of a high-quality public address and voice alarm solution. The product has been developed by Zenitel in association with ASL, another key player in the industry. The IP technology embedded in this system offers an audio output of 16bit/48kHz sampling. The press release issued by the company highlighted that this new product complies with all the major industry standards, including EN 54-16, UL, and CSA certifications. Lars Paulsson, the Executive Vice President, Zenitel, stated that the PAVA system is developed to meet any normal and emergency situations seamlessly.
Similarly, in July 2024, Robert Bosch GmbH, a German engineering and technology company, announced the expansion of its product portfolio by introducing the latest additions to its Praesensa PAVA ecosystem. The newly launched systems include the second version of the Praesensa system software and a wall control display panel. The innovative design of this wall panel features a 4.5 cm color TFT display with adjustable volume and audio modules. Furthermore, the integration of Unicode characters in the system lets users select different languages based on the zones, thus providing an inclusive user experience. This functionality is especially important in regions where English is not a common medium of communication. The easy installation offered by the systems has further increased its popularity in the industry.
To sum it up, the public address and voice alarm systems industry is expected to witness growth in the coming period due to the rising preference for advanced communication systems that provide clear-cut voice messages and instructions. Furthermore, the laws and regulations passed by various governments mandating the use of PAVA systems are expected to enhance the revenue share of the sector in the near future.
