Anti-inflammatory therapeutics is growing popularity as it plays a vital role in relieving pain and inflammation owing to the growing healthcare expenditure and rising disposable income. In addition, increasing popularity of biologics and better healthcare access are factors that supplement popularity. Particularly, growing number of autoimmune & respiratory diseases, development of new drugs, and increasing usage of OTC NSAIDs are the factors responsible for growth in the Asia-Pacific anti-inflammatory therapeutics market.

Expert opinion on anti-inflammatory therapeutics:

A national survey conducted by The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration in 2012 on drug use and health projected that more than 2 million people in the United States suffered from substance abuse after they were prescribed opioid pain relievers such as Oxycodone and Vicodin. Dr. Robert Bonakdar, director of pain management at Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine in La Jolla, California, mentioned that he noticed two or three times more referrals of patients seeking integrative therapies. He used many non-pharmaceutical options for treatments, such as electrotherapy, tai chi, and mindfulness/meditation. He also tried diet and supplemental therapies such as the anti-inflammatory herbals ginger, curcumin, and boswellia.

Commenting the effects of using non-pharmaceutical options, he said, "What they provide is that they may be a better fit for a patient than maybe a monotherapy prescription. For example, ginger may help that migraine patient with stomach symptoms and nausea. There is also some evidence that ginger may heal some of the gastritis that can come from increasing use of NSAIDS, which can happen as headaches worsen.” Bonadkar also mentioned that evidence shows that conditions, such as osteoarthritis have a metabolic component including people who have normal weight. He spent a lot of time trying to spread awareness by interaction with patients about the significance of a low glycemic, anti-inflammatory diet with an increase in fresh foods.
