There has been a remarkable surge in the demand for blood culture test due to the increase in the occurrence of infectious diseases among people in various countries. Apart from that, significant growth in the demand for blood culture tests market to prevent adverse potential infections and surge in geriatric population are expected to drive the growth of the global blood culture test market.

  • New Products to Deliver Positive Results Whilst Saving Time

Numerous players of the market in various countries are launching innovative blood culture test products and services to effectively cater to needs of people. For instance, Accelerate Diagnostics, the global in vitro diagnostics company providing solutions to drug resistant organisms and hospital acquired infections, announced the launch of its Accelerate Arc system for quick and accurate microbial identification of positive blood cultures. This new system includes the Accelerate Arc module and blood culture (BC) kit that has been notably designed for laboratories that use matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI).

The Arc module is an application of inline centrifugal and sample preparation techniques. It has a hands-on time of two to three minutes to run, and can further be conveniently used by laboratory technicians on any shift. Thus, a great deal of time and manual steps are saved for delivering microbial Identification (ID) results for positive blood cultures.

In addition, this system essentially terminates the need for batching multiple specimen tests, and hence enables seamless transfer to a MALDI spotting plate with the BC kit. Furthermore, it offers cleaned and concentrated microbial cells suspension.

Jack Phillips, the President and Chief Executive Officer of Accelerate Diagnostics, mentioned in a statement that the total cost to rapidly identify organisms from positive blood cultures can appreciably be at least 50% lesser than what customers are usually paying currently for a rapid molecular ID solution.

  • FDA Approval for New Platform

The trend of launching and getting approvals for healthcare blood culture test kits and products continues to gain massive momentum in the healthcare sector. For instance, Selux Diagnostics, Inc., a dominant Boston-based company engaged in providing personalized diagnostics to combat superbug infections and fight antibiotic resistance, announced that its Next Generation 'Phenotyping' (NGP) platform has received Breakthrough Device Designation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for positive blood culture and sterile body fluid samples.

Selux NGP is the only single-platform technology capable of delivering rapid AST results across all sample types with an unprecedented antibiotic menu. It provides phenotypic AST from both Positive Blood Bottles and isolated colonies that may potentially deliver necessary results to determine which therapies may beneficially treat a patient's infection.
Thus, persistent blood culture launches and increase in the geriatric population in various countries are expected to create ample opportunities for the market.
