Dexcom’s Partnership with Verily:
Dexcom, a leading CGM manufacturer is collaborating with Verily, a medical tech firm of Google’s parent company Alphabet to launch a miniaturized continuous glucose monitor in 2018. Furthermore, they are also planning to launch Band aid-sized glucose monitor in 2020 or 2021, which is disposable and cheaper product. Two companies teamed up in August 2015 in order to bring the tiny technology of Verily and regulatory knowledge & industry experience of Dexcom together.

The pair is aiming for developing a CGM device that does not require daily finger stick calibration. They are also planning to manufacture a monitoring device for type-2 diabetic patients who particularly use insulin. Both of them are taking help of FDA to accomplish these goals.

The CEO of Dexcom believes that the sales of their products would take off in 2018 as the company didn’t sale considerably in 2016 and not expecting to get in 2017. Kevin Sayer, President and CEO of Dexcom said, "The milestones are really two big ones. There's our first-generation product, which we're working on, but our second-generation product--which we're also working on with Verily, and the second--generation product we've shown pictures of. That's turning the CGM transmitter literally into a Band-Aid-sized electronics configuration that a patient can peel off and throw away, that'd be very cost effective and that's the end game here. That's what we're shooting for every day because we know that's what patients want."
