Graphene- world’s first 2D material is 200 times powerful than steel and is tough and extra light. The material is great conductor of electricity and heat resistant. The material has numerous application in fields such as energy, composite, coatings, electronic sensors, automobile, aerospace, , biomedical, etc. due to its physiochemical characteristics.
As per a report by Allied Market Research titled “Global Graphene Market (Bulk material, Film, Product Type, Applications, Geography) - Industry Analysis, Trends, Share, Opportunities and Forecast, 2013- 2020,” the market would attain a size of $149.1 million by the end of 2020, growing at a CAGR of 44.0% from 2014 to 2020. As a result of growing automotive and electronics industry, Asia Pacific would register a CAGR of 42.9%.
Geographically, North America contributes the Largest share in Graphene Market. There were about 8,413 graphene patents till February 2013. EU has decided to spend around $1.3 billion to develop the graphene market during the next 10 years. This move would beef up the market. Product launch is the primary strategy lauched by numerous business houses to promote their business especially for Graphene Oxide (GO), monolayer & bi-layer graphene, and graphene nano platelet (GNP)
However, limited production, high cost of production and increasing competiton would impede the market growth rate. Increases in production would drop the price of grapheme upto 70%.
GNP is the key segment due to its varied applications, low cost and early adoption. However, GO and monolayer & bi-layer grapheme would witness significant growth rate owing to its increasing applications in electronics, aerospace, energy, and coating. Graphene electric storage and electronics are the most popular application market due to early adoption. Low layered grapheme still remains less popular due high price and lack of mass production.
