Smartphones, tablets, and wearable devices are everywhere. There are billions of smartphone users across the globe and staying connected to the internet and several social-networking sites have become essential. Consumers are going through a smartphone boom and therefore, there is a desperate need for services that help manage mobile devices.

Mobile device management refers to remotely managing devices and enabling the customer to perform operations on phones and tablets. It includes several features such as device provisioning, enrolment, location tracking, and device security. In addition, it can track inventory, perform real-time reporting & monitoring, and enforce security policies. Mobile device management enables the customer to delete data in case the mobile device is lost or stolen and protect private data.

According to Allied Market Research, the mobile device management market is expected to reach $98.71 billion by 2030, growing at a CAGR of 27.8% from 2021 to 2030. The increase in data and mobile devices in organizations and rise in bringing your own device culture in companies have boosted the market growth.

The rise in demand for digitization and surge in investments in R&D activities for the development of novel Internet of Things (IoT) systems has increased the need for mobile device management. Here are the top trends in mobile device management.

1. Bring Your Own Device:

For years, corporate companies gave dedicated work laptops or smartphones and the devices had role-based access to the company’s data and emails. Moreover, the use of secure VPN, GPS tracking, password-protection applications, and other security software was already installed in them. However, since the Covid-19 pandemic, companies were forced to adopt work from home culture and the trend of bring your own device (BYOD) became more prominent. The lack of budget, shortage of electronic devices, and disruption of the supply chain forced companies to change their IT policies and enroll personal devices in the mobile device management systems, given that the IT department would monitor behavior, productivity, and enforce security policies.

2. Augmented And Virtual Reality (AR/VR)

This is the most innovative trend in the mobile device management industry. AR/VR is finding its way into the metaverse-type applications and into maintenance. Field rep or technicians can use headsets to see physical devices while job requests, specifications, and other information is displayed on the headset. Such as system can show them where repairs are needed and it can help to accomplish tasks quickly. Although this trend is evolving and is still in its initial phase.

3. Advanced mobile device management:

According to IBM, advanced MDM is the next big thing. In the future, more sophisticated MDM solutions would enter the market where systems and data are subjected to analysis by artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning. These advanced tools would improve security by keeping devices safe from cyber-attacks and malware. Moreover, it can sport strange activities at ports, anomalous behavior, and detect potential efforts at exfiltration.

Advance MDM solutions can enroll or assign devices with pre-programmed data profiles, access privileges, and VPN access, which enables them to monitor, troubleshoot, track, and even decommission devices if necessary.
