Automation and control products are becoming preferred solutions in many industries for improving productivity, accurate fault detection, and many other purposes. Many sectors such as oil & gas, telecommunication, electricity distribution, and others have been utilizing automation and control systems to accelerate operations and save time through real-time monitoring. Pashchimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (PVVNL), the power distribution company in Noida, launched the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system. The launch took place for real-time monitoring of distribution of power along with accurate detection of fault locations and lower down the outage time. PVVNL officials highlighted that the implementation of such system will lower down costs, increase network flexibility, and provide worker safety. They also outlined that the real-time monitoring will prevent small issues to become big and lower down restoration time considerably. Field workers will be able to track the exact location of power outage instead of waiting for the complaint.
Such applications of different types of automation and control products such as programmable logic controller (PLC), SCADA, and others are in demand. Market players adopted various strategies such as new product launches and acquisition to launch innovative products and expand the national footprint. The demand for innovative products to enable automation and controls in industrial applications will increase in the coming years. According to the report published by Allied Market Research, the automation and controls market is estimated to generate $845.15 billion by 2030. Following are some of the activities taking place across the world.
The launch of various automation and control products is one of the major trends taking place across the world. Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) launched programmable logic controller (PLC) and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) software for carrying out different functionalities of process automation systems. ECIL has become a pioneer in development of PLC and SCADA products for nuclear plants, steel & power plants, oil & gas industries, and Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) centers. Researchers from Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), and ECIL collaborated for development of new products under the Atmanirbhar Bharath mission.
Along with the launch of new products, market players have adopted the strategy of acquisition for expanding their portfolio. Inframark LLC acquired BLTI for serving the existing customer base and provide advanced automation and cybersecurity solutions. BLTI provides SCADA systems for commercial, municipal, and institutional organizations. Under the acquisition, BLTI will become a part of Inframark’s existing SCADA division and develop solutions for the water and wastewater industry.
Tom Hopkins, the Vice President of SCADA division of Inframark, highlighted that the company was looking for a partner to expand its SCADA solutions and it found BLTI. He added that the acquisition will help the company in expanding the national footprint and support its water and wastewater contract operations. Officials from BLTI outlined that this step will offer the company an opportunities to take the success of Inframark to the next level. In addition, it will enable the company to offer solutions at the national level. Both companies will combine their resources to achieve a higher level of success.
