IntelliAdjust runs with interferometric sensor technology, operating within a closed loop to achieve precise material distribution and maintain uniform production, even for bottles made from recycled PET (rPET). Autonomous bottle control and real-time digitized process adjustments of IntelliAdjust contribute to optimal material distribution, ensuring a seamless production process.

When integrated with Sidel's Evo-On software suite, IntelliAdjust offers the aggregation of equipment data and dynamic analytics features. This integration enables historical and 24/7 real-time analysis, providing manufacturers with valuable insights into their production processes. According to Stéphane Menard, the product manager for Blowing Care at Sidel, by emphasizing the user-friendly nature of this blowing solution, Sidel maximizes its number of marketable bottles, ensuring high-quality control consistently.

With the growing demand for extreme lightweighting and higher rPET content, the blow molding process of Sidel has rapidly become an essential process in rPET manufacturing. The company’s IntelliAdjust demonstrates its versatility by catering to a diverse range of PET preforms, including translucent, opaque, colored (non-TiO2), and virgin preforms with up to 100% rPET content. This adaptability proves beneficial for manufacturers looking to incorporate rPET, given the variability in material grades from multiple sources.   

Innovative initiatives by Krones and Valagroup boosting PET manufacturing

In January 2024, Krones, a German packaging and bottling machine manufacturer signed an agreement to acquire Netstal Maschinen AG, a leading developer and manufacturer of industrial machinery. Under this acquisition Netstal supplies injection machines to mold PET preforms and caps for the beverage market as well as medical applications and thinwall packaging. In addition, the acquisition adds preform and closure molding Krones’ capabilities in PET container stretch-blow molding, filling and packaging. Netstal also supports Krones’ strategy to diversify beyond beverage markets into pharma, food and personal care.

In October 2023, Valgroup, Brazil-based plastic manufacturer and recycler announced its acquisition of Garda Plast Group, an Italian producer of PET and rPET preforms. This acquisition consolidated Valgroup’s presence in Italy by adding two additional Italian PET preform factories to its portfolio, the Polpenazze del Garda unit and a unit at Palmanova, northeast Italy, where Ifap, another Italian manufacturer of PET preforms, has its operations. In an interview, Luigi Geronimi, founder of Valgroup said that with this acquisition, the company also strengthened its position in the Italian market, creating a hub of innovation in the PET and rPET preform sector for the beverage, detergent and dairy industries.
