The commercial usage of connected medical devices or telemedicine, such as heart rate monitors and step trackers, is no longer a new topic as a surge of new technologies swarmed into the healthcare industry. With a scarcity of clinicians and the pressure to cut expenses, more and more healthcare providers are turning to telehealth for assistance. Technological developments, rapid adoption of telemedicine in the wake of COVID-19, and a substantial decrease in the healthcare cost pressure are major driving factors for the growth of the global telemedicine market. According to Allied Market Research, the global telemedicine market is anticipated to grow at a significant CAGR from 2021 to 2030.
Leading players are adopting strategic partnerships to enhance healthcare solutions offerings 24*7 with the latest technology. Last month, Amazon, the world's leading technology and e-commerce firm, and Teladoc, a telemedicine company, announced a new groundbreaking initiative: offering virtual care via Amazon Alexa devices. According to the release, the residents of the United States will now be able to get in touch with a Teladoc care professional 24/7 through approved Echo devices for general medical needs. At first, Teladoc on Alexa will only accept audio visits, but video visits will be available soon.
The collaboration between Teladoc Health and Amazon is yet another step toward eliminating barriers to healthcare access. Teladoc is introducing a new and simple approach for individuals to connect with a health care professional by offering and integrating its digital-first care experience with Echo devices. With the release of Amazon Care and its extensive pharmaceutical services, the organization is gradually but surely building a complete ecosystem that will likely become a mainstream mode of care delivery in the near future.
Another couple of firms joined hands to make quality healthcare more accessible with telemedicine centers across various countries. The global healthcare company Bayer has partnered with RxDx Healthcare and Piramal Swasthya to open 27 telemedicine centers across eight states in India in order to make quality healthcare more accessible. Bayer Foundation India will establish the centers over the next two years, with the goal of strengthening local health capacities. Telehealth facilities will be opened in Karnataka, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Chhattisgarh to deliver health, nutrition, and hygiene awareness sessions as part of a campaign, thus offering comprehensive and integrated healthcare solutions.
The collaborations with RxDx Healthcare and Piramal Swasthya will aid in the establishment of telemedicine centers using a novel hub and spoke (nodal) structure. Local communities will be able to get high-quality healthcare in their own neighborhoods without having to travel large distances with these telemedicine centers.
The outbreak of COVID-19 has had a favorable impact on the global telemedicine market. There was an urgent need for physicians to use telehealth to communicate with their patients, especially during the initial phase of the lockdown. Moreover, the market is expected to witness an increase in growth in the post-pandemic era, owing to the rapid adoption of technology in the healthcare industry
