Artificial intelligence (AI) is the unalterable future of mankind. AI would be present in our daily life, work, and rather every aspect of our lives whether one likes it or not. The sci-fi movies that people watched while growing up would come true at a certain point in the future.

The data centers are not far away from the touch of AI. In the era of AI, the data center must be ready for and adapt to the computing power that AI would bring soon enough. The surge in smart counting devices and growth in demand for cloud, edge, and even fog computing would become a key driving force. Thinking ahead of the curve, several market players including Huawei, Ericsson, and Jupiter Networks have taken a step to develop AI-powered data center switch. At the beginning of this year, Huawei, unveiled and demonstrated CloudEngine 16800, an AI-driven chip that offers microsecond latency, 100% throughput, and zero packet loss to boost the AI computing power of company networks.

The tech giant of China recently launched the most advanced data center switch that is powered by AI to reduce latency and improve performance. It is a part of a series of data center switches that uses AI to advance network operations and offers a network foundation for enterprises. As per Huawei, the new data center switch is the only data center switch that caters an in-built AI chip and uses an iLossless algorithm to perform auto-optimization of traffic model and auto-sensing. Thus, it lowers latency by offering higher throughput based zero packet loss. The CloudEngine 16800 offers an internal analyzer, FabricInsight that recognizes faults in seconds and locates them in minutes. Moreover, it offers optimization of the network as it works as a brain to optimize each path on the network.

What’s more, Huawei claims that the new data center overcomes computing power limitations that are presented by packet loss on the conventional Ethernet and increases the AI computing power from 50% to 100% while increasing the data storage input/output operation per second by 30%. Thus, so far, CloudEngine 16800 is certainly the most attractive data center switch on the market, with the largest 768-port 400GE switching capacity and 48-port 400Gigabit Ethernet line card per slot, which is–as per the company–around five times of the industry average.

The advent of such AI-driven switches would definitely affect the performance of data center networks. Today’s data centers have witnessed drastic changes from being just on-premise facilities that run corporation applications into something new every day that sync with the demands of this century. In addition, the advent of 5G has complimented the growth of the data center switch industry. According to Allied Market Research, the data center switch industry market is projected to garner $28.71 billion by 2026 with compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10.1% from 2019 to 2026. The prime reason behind such forecast could be the advent of AI in the data center switch industry and the launch of such AI-based data center switch is just the beginning.
