With the consumers in today's world becoming more and more conscious about the adverse effects on the ecology of the mother earth, manufacturers have also become quite keen about the cause. And, obligations that rose several concerns for the environment before have also driven the development of a number of eco-friendly products. Biotechnology is one of such prime examples in this regard. Replacing chemical process to organic ones, it makes sure that the ecological balance is maintained at least to some extent. Utilizing organic components, chemical substances of the organisms’ living cells in the production process, white technology definitely paves the way for a better world to live in.

When it can help attain sustainability and safeguard the environment, it also leads off to durable, stylish and comfortable wears. Also, one area in which white technology can aid in manufacturing ecological applications in the textile industry is wet processing. Certain components from organisms like enzymes are being used to render high-end solutions in dyeing processes. Apart from acting as perfect catalysts and citing better stereoselectivity, enzymes can work under modest conditions. And, the practice is not new at all; rather, it’s been in use since ages. The process of taking off stains from woven materials using enzymatic thickener is a common instance of the use of white technology in textile wet processing. Even in 1950s, microbe amylases were quite common an enzyme used in resizing fabrics and several surveys have showcased these are now being used in textile industries as well.

In the last few years, widespread research has been carried out and scientists have come up with exclusive eco-friendly materials in textiles- components that are either formed synthetically from oil or made using cellulose strands extracted from cotton. Even, there are quite a few Textiles & Design ventures that are working to curtail down water use as well as climate impact of the textile industry. And, keeping this in mind, some companies have even set an example by manufacturing jeans made of cellulose fibers from the eucalyptus tree. And, these jeans actually feel as soft and easy as regular jeans and do not get wrinkles at all.

Apart from apparels, the global textile chemicals market comprises healthcare & medicinal products, floor furnishing artefacts and even home decorating items. According to Allied Market Research, the growth of the textile chemicals has considerably decreased from 2016–2022. The reasons are pretty obvious though. Negative effects of textile chemicals on environment and several strict government regulations over noxious chemicals used in textile chemicals market have checked the growth to some extent. However, expansion of apparel industries for rising consumer demands, surge in the call for home furnishing & eco-friendly products, rising hest for technical textiles globally, and development of packaging industries worldwide are expected to propel the growth in more than one way. Also, mounting awareness of anti-microbial, magnificent and stain resistant textiles are also expected to create lucrative opportunities for the key players in the industry.
