Mineral wool padding is considered as one of the very few building provisions that saves energy in use and diminishes the need for ignition of fossil fuels to dole out the much needed energy for the cooling or heating of buildings.
Offering outstanding thermal insulation, mineral wool helps check on heat transfer through building cloaks, thereby minimizing the demand for cooling and heating energy. Accordingly, it tends to bring down an array of negative environmental impacts related to the production of electricity and gas, including the emanations and releases of several obnoxious gases that are associated with acid rain and global warming. At the same time, thermal insulation not only provides better comfort for building residents, but also ensures huge cost savings.
The use of mineral wool is not new today; rather, it has been around for decades. Recycled slag from steel mills and molten basalt salt are the two main ingredients mineral wool is made from. Once the fiber is spinned out, it can be formed into pads or duvets. These boards are then used to fill the walls. Mineral wool comes with some real benefits over its substitutes. And, if you have an insulation job coming up, you should certainly choose mineral wool over cellulose and fiberglass.
Mineral stone insulation boards are definitely better and much enhanced than that of the cellulose batts sold at most silos, barns and home centers. For the installers, it’s certainly a much easier chore to perform. A top level and excellent insulation job is guaranteed if mineral wool is used instead of cellulose or fiberglass. The fact that mineral wool comes with greater firmness and stringency makes it easy for individuals to cut it more precisely, allowing accurate trimming around vents, passages and other obstructions. On the other hand, fiberglass boards are not at all easy to install, as they are saggy, droopy, and thus, hard to cut through.
Unlike other types of insulation, mineral wool happens to withstand extreme heat. As it is non-combustible in nature, mineral wool offers in-built fire guard and successfully accounts for fire safety of buildings. In a fire outbreak, the boards happen to hold on to their shape and provide better protection against the flame. The insulation actually works as a fire block, retarding and slowing up house fires. This way, individuals at fire services even get more time to take things under control.
Another excellent property of mineral wool boards is that they do not tend to blot up much water and thus, can stay intact even when they are wet. Mineral wool works as a natural moisture resistant. So, even in case of roof and wall leakage, the boards will just remain as dandy as new after they dry out. On the contrary, cellulose happens to wilt, slouch, and get clumpy when they are wet. And, at times, the only solution to bring their insulating property back is to pull apart the wall covering and replace them.
Last but not the least; mineral wool boards are relatively denser and thicker than other varieties of stone wool insulation, making them a superior choice at heat & sound proofing inner surfaces, ceilings, and walls. Thus, installers always prefer to install batts between room chambers or in the beams between floors to minimize sound transmission.
According to Allied Market Research, the global mineral wool market is expected to grow at a significant CAGR from 2019 to 2026. The cost-efficient nature of mineral wool and its great insulating power has worked as the two major factors fueling the growth of the market in more than one way.
