Eye-tracking technology is coming out as a promising technology for a wide array of consumer segments. Though the concept has been around since the 1800s, the advancements have enabled us to gain an unequaled amount of information into the humanoid mind.
Eye-tracking is basically a process of measuring eye movements to determine a person’s sight over a particular spot. It is mostly used by researchers and businesses for studying human behavior, as it helps to understand the objective and precise measure and visual attention.
In the past few years, this technology has been extensively adopted for a number of applications including packaging design and psychological research. Eye-tracking data provides exclusive insights based on human behavior along with digitalizing the way people interact with machines and devices. It highlights what the user sees and notices. This in turn offers a platform for enterprises to create advanced solutions.
The higher growth and adoption rate of eye-tracking has also boosted the demand for eye-tracking devices. The device forms a dataset that can be visualized and interpreted to represent the behavior. There are different variety of eye trackers that are majorly used for eye tracking.
With one general principle, there are numerous eye-tracking devices available with the most suitable features based on the research of the user. Screen-based, for instance, is among the most predominant and stand-alone remote devices that are commonly used for eye tracking for medical conditions in humans. This can be attached either individually or to a laptop or monitor and provides a huge amount of data along with detailed information related to eye movements.
Eye-tracking with glasses and virtual reality (VR) headsets is another ideal process for studying behavior in real-world situations including playing sports, consuming media in the home, human interaction, working in a factory, and others.
Webcam eye trackers, furthermore, are another device highly known for eye tracking. These are the built-in or external webcams attached to a laptop or monitor that gathers information based on the person’s vision. This process relies on the image produced by the webcam processed with an algorithm, which helps to analyze the position of the eyes and head. The following direction is furthermore gets correlated with an image on the screen. This process, however, is slightly limited.
The adoption of eye-tracking technology has increased in the past few years. However, there are certain challenges witnessed by the technology including high product cost. The growing automation throughout various sectors and the rapid acceptance of robotic technology also lead to hamper the technology to certain extent. Despite that, the market is all set to have a mounting growth. According to a report published by Allied Market Research, eye-tracking market is expected to grow at a significant pace. At the same time, the adoption of eye-tracking technology for newer applications including cognitive testing, lie-detecting system, the aviation industry, and others are creating a way for an array of opportunities for the industry.
