As the awareness about sexually transmitted diseases is increasing, the frequency of STDs testing is improving. Rise in technological advancements in the medical industry has made the tests procedures more convenient and easier. Favorable government initiatives, growing awareness, and patient education drive the market growth for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) testing. According to Allied Market Research, the global STD reimbursement scenario analysis and top STD testing technologies market is anticipated to grow at a significant CAGR from 2014 to 2022.

Impact of COVID-19:

When the Covid-19 pandemic broke, individuals all across the globe couldn't get tested fast enough. The novel virus propelled the diagnostic business to a new level of test production, paving the way for at-home testing for a range of various diseases and health measures. During the initial days of the pandemic, at-home tests were produced, but they, too, were in short supply. This presented enormous opportunities for the market players.

The breakthrough in at-home testing has encouraged personal tests for a variety of other disorders. During the pandemic, the number of cases of sexually transmitted infections increased rapidly, while testing for them decreased. As the number of patients continued to grow, the state of California became overburdened by the number of people seeking medical help for STIs. California was the first state to implement mandating health insurance companies to cover STI tests at homes, such as chlamydia, HIV, and syphilis.

As the cases for various STDs increased, the need for their testing did too. Following the growing industry trend, market players are adopting various strategies to support at-home tests. In response to the pandemic, a public-private partnership, TakeMeHome, was established in March 2020. The service delivers HIV at-home self-testing kits that are provided at no cost to patients by state or municipal health authorities.

As the world is getting back to normalcy, market participants are introducing numerous services to boost STD testing. A value-added microelectronics distributor, Spirit Electronics, recently announced the addition of MIL-STD-883 Test Services with the DLA Commercial Lab Suitability program. Spirit Electronics’s qualified test techniques include temperature cycling, external visual inspection, HAST (biased and unbiased), scanning acoustic microscopy, and stabilization bake. The Defense Logistics Agency's (DLA) Land and Maritime Qualifications and Sourcing Division are conducting the Commercial Lab Suitability program. The purpose of this initiative is to qualify defense supply chain labs that are capable of conducting testing to military standards. Spirit CEO Marti McCurdy highlighted that their lab services are part of the company’s unique test, distribution, and assembly approach to supplying components ready-to-use to their clients.

Several leading players are focusing on on-demand innovation of products for enhancing the capabilities of labs. Beckman Coulter Life Sciences, a Danaher Corporation firm and a leading provider in life sciences lab automation and innovation, has launched the CellMek SPS, a robust solution to data management bottlenecks and manual sample preparation in clinical flow cytometry. The new technology generates a constant stream of samples that are ready to be analyzed and are fully traceable. The innovative market strategies and product launch will boost STD testing, which in turn will increase the growth of the global STD reimbursement scenario analysis and top STD testing technologies market.
